Update on the Josh Hadley vs Facebook thing. The controversy was about the HP Lovecraft poem On the Creation of Niggers. HP Lovecraft was it seems a rather racist man, at least for part of his life. I never knew that and Josh educated me on that by exposing the less savoury side of a very influential man. In short it seems pretty clear that Facebook acted unjustly and unwisely in shutting down a conversation simply because of its content containing an example of racisim. Josh called it political correct police gone amock and it certainly seems to be the case, yet again, that those who choose to censor rarely do their homework and rely on keywords to identify offensiveness. Discussion of offensive things should not be identified as being offensive in and of itself and a discussion of offensiveness neutered by fear of offense results mostly in linguistic dance routines that often fail to make the point.
