Update on the injured male loggerhead. He was found by a fisherman entangled in net and was brought to the shore so that he could be cut free. When he was on the shore it was also clear that he had a big fishing hook stuck in his mouth, so he ran to The Turtle House to ask for our help. The turtle is now resting in a tank in Orca Diving Centre and will be assessed by Dra Fatima the veterinarian in the morning. We are all fairly sure that a back flipper will need to be amputated. Well done to all who helped to save him, especially Kucuca and Capitão Luis. He is a mature turtle, with a carapace length of 95cm and an overall length of 1m 2 cm. It seems likely that he has been struggling to survive with the fishing line around his flipper for some time. More news tomorrow.
