Update on the senior lady and her senior dog: I spoke extensively - TopicsExpress

Update on the senior lady and her senior dog: I spoke extensively with her. She has made her dog comfortable and feels her girl will make it to morning. All my social work training and the intuition I inherited from my psychologist dad tell me this woman is sincere. She has two dogs - this one is almost 14 (Lab/Husky type dog apparently) and her other slightly smaller one is 12. They are her only remaining family. They are her only remaining friends. She was completely flabbergasted that anyone would want to help her. I pried out of her that shes on a fixed income and recently had another vet bill for her other dog. If theyre that large and that old, shes obviously doing something right. I told her some of us would still like to contribute toward her vet bill, she refused, but I asked her to please let us help as a way to pay it forward for times when our friends and families have helped us. She started crying. I shed a few tears too. So tomorrow morning I will call her and try to round up someone to come with me and help lift her old girl into her car. Shell take her to her vet. Cynthia (the woman) said she felt she owed at least that much to her girl. When Cynthia had her stroke recently, she laid on the floor of her house for three days before the police suspected something might be wrong and broke into her house. She said that during that time, her dogs never left her side. They kept her going. They kept her alive. Cynthia lost the use of one arm, and that is why she is now unable to get her dog into the car to get to the vet. She wants to give her dog a chance, if there is one. If not, I pray she can find the strength to make that so difficult decision. I have received some donations., so if those who gave still want to help, I will put that amount, plus a little from me, toward her vet bill by giving the vet my credit card. So please say a little prayer for Cynthia and her dogs... her family... It sounds like they could use a few. I thank HER for allowing me to pay it forward by helping her find resources and support during this difficult time. -Em
