Update on the seven cats who were anonymously left at our centre at the weekend. The good news is that 6 of the 7 are very friendly - the 7th one, however, is very scared and hiding. The bad news is - all the cats have earmites. At least four are un-neutered (one male is definitely neutered, the two remaining females will have to undergo surgery for us to find out). The older female has chronic cat flu and her teeth are so bad that she will have to have most of them removed when her condition improves. All the cats were covered in fleas, particularly one of the younger ones. This is a typical case of people taking on cats without having a clue how to look after them, and taking on more cats than they can cope with. The poor things were in agony with their ears and flea bites, things that are very easy to treat but which spread and cause major discomfort if untreated. The older female should have been seen by a vet weeks ago, she has an old eye injury caused we think by cat flu and one ear collapsed, which may have been caused by mites. We despair. How can we ever make a difference to the lives of cats when people refuse to treat even basic medical conditions, dont bother to neuter their cats and then abandon them when they no longer want them or there are too many.
