Update: (this will probably be a long one) After my last update on Saturday night, Skyler hung on the couch with Anthony while James and I went in the chamber. James fell asleep as he usually does. As I was depressurizing the chamber, Skyler ran in tell me Duper got out... This was the beginning of our crazy night! Thank goodness Skyler found Duper just in time for James and I to get out of the chamber. We put James and Anthony to bed and headed to sleep ourselves. About 30 minutes later, I heard Skyler in James room. I went in to see what he was doing and he was just changing James (who is now awake) diaper. No big deal, I headed back to bed. Skyler returned to bed and instantly fell asleep. I went to check on James and he was still wide awake. I laid with him for a little, anticipating he would return to sleep. He was not unhappy or crying at all - it was actually the opposite. He was mouthing a lot of words and making so many new noises. I think we were both too excited about these new sounds that neither of us could sleep. Five hours later, we were both still up. I finally decided to leave him alone and let us both get some rest(it was now about 4:30). He got upset, began crying and then it happened - he threw up. For the first time in about a week the vomiting had returned. At around 5, I decided to pass the torch to Skyler so I could get some sleep. Anthony woke up at 6 and then the morning started. Soooo Saturday night included a total of about 1 hour of sleep for James. I finally (around 9am) got the bright idea to bring him back to his happy place - his spaceship aka the hyperbaric chamber. Within 5 minutes, my baby was sleeping. About a minute after that, I was too! We were woken up TWO HOURS later by my mom who figured 2 hours in the chamber was long enough. Even with so little sleep, yesterday James had a day filled with laughs, smiles, swimming and unfortunately, a lot of vomiting. He, once again, was unable to keep anything down. He didnt let that ruin his day, he went swimming with Brianna, got his hair brushed by Reese, watched Austin do his turtle dance and was an exceptional student to teacher Jack. In between all of that, we did ALOT of stimulation with his mouth. He now sticks his tongue out of his mouth(he also thinks it funny). Weird, I was always teaching him manners and I would never have thought I would be encouraging him to stick out his tongue. Skyler wanted to grill so we had a house full of people for the day. Once all quieted down, I gave James his 9:00 medicine. He instantly threw it up. We then gave him a bath because it usually calms him down. As we were drying him off, he would not stop vomiting. We then decided it was probably time to have a doctor take a look at him. The GI doctor told us that any child with a gtube and persistent vomiting should go the the emergency room- so we did. As I was packing us up (just incase we had an overnight stay), James finally fell asleep! We loaded up and headed back to the hospital. We live about 1 mile away from our local hospital but drove back to broward general - I have stated my satisfaction with them countless times and cannot imagine having anyone else treat my baby boy. We were seen pretty quickly and they started an IV with fluids to keep him hydrated. The nurses drew his blood and then gave him zofran to stop the vomiting. Soon after, James and I were all passed out in the bed and Skyler jumped in the crib to get some shut eye, too. The results came back good and we headed home. James stayed awake for the ride home and as soon as we put him in bed(4:30am), he fell asleep. He slept through the night and actually had to be woken up this morning for therapy at 12:00!! After about 2 hours of speech therapy, he went down for a nap just to be woken up again for physical therapy at 4:30. All of his therapies wrapped up at about 7:30 and then we enjoyed some time relaxing on the couch. He hasnt vomited today but did seem a little off. He was cranky and his eyes are a little glossy. I have had a sore throat for 2 days and Im not sure if he might be getting sick as well. Tonight, while he and I were on the couch and Skyler was drawing up his meds, I kept saying hi!. Twice, he made the ah sound and the third attempt he actually said hi! I freaked out, called Skyler into the living room but James didnt say it again. His hands are opening a lot more now and remain open for periods of time. His neck strength is improving and his tracking is remarkable! We are now trying to work on his trunk(torso/chest) control. Everyday we see progress and everyday we have more hope. I always remain positive in James bodies god given ability to heal himself. I try and share as much as I can with you all but sometimes I like to only focus on the positives. From a medical stand point, James is not suppose to be here. I was told that if he survived the initial resuscitation, he wouldnt be expected to live past 2 days with the blood pH that he had. But I know that God works in mysterious ways. The very moment I heard of James accident I just kept repeating, he is too good of a soul to be taken. He needs to be here to spread his joy. I truly believe God has bigger plans for my baby boy. I had been anticipating this very day for a while, the day James was suppose to start preschool. Instead of sending my munchkin to meet his teacher, I was watching him attempt unsuccessfully to say words he had spoken to me hundreds of times. If I only say it this one time, as I am not a mushy or emotional person, please never take anything or anyone in your life for granted. You never know how quickly your life can be changed. #turtlepower -Jenna
