Updated: Incoming USC WR out for the season with knee injury Scholarship limitations are already doing a number on USC’s depth. The last thing the Trojans need are injuries. Unfortunately for Lane Kiffin and Co., that might be exactly what they’re getting with incoming wide receiver Steven Mitchell. Multiple outlets are reporting that Mitchell went down with what is being called a “serious” knee injury during voluntary offseason workouts. The injury reportedly happened during a non-contact drill when Mitchell’s knee “buckled, twisting awkwardly” while planting. Mitchell’s high school coach told Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times the receiver will undergo an MRI. USC has not officially commented on the extent of the injury. Mitchell was a four-star member of USC’s 2013 recruiting class and was looking to contribute immediately as a freshman alongside Marqise Lee. Updated 6:22 p.m. ET: It didn’t take long for USC to confirm the worst fears surrounding the injury to Steven Mitchell. On its Twitter account, the school confirmed Mitchell will miss the 2013 season because of torn ligaments in his knee. With fellow wide receiver George Farmer also out for the season, USC is down to just five scholarship wide receivers on roster. Just a tough, tough break for him and USC.
