Updated #VoterGuide for November 4, 2014 [Remember, this is coming from a conservative libertarian with a BA in Economics & Business and a MA in Theology/Biblical Studies. Since last week, I had an opportunity to discuss some of the issues with Scott Nelson, mayor of Placentia. He is a social moderate and fiscal conservative whom I respect, so I took his input seriously and changed my mind on a couple of things.] GOVERNOR: no endorsement Lt GOVERNOR: no endorsement SEC of STATE: Peterson CONTROLLER: no endorsement TREASURER: Conlon (a very weak endorsement) ATTY GENERAL: Gold INSURANCE COMMISH: Gaines STATE BoE - 4th District: no endorsement US REP- 39th District: Royce STATE ASSEMBLY - 55th District: Chang JUDICIAL: Liu - No Cuellar - No Werdegar - no endorsement (voting yes) ORourke - Yes Nares - Yes McDonald - Yes McIntyre - no endorsement (voting yes) Hollenhorst - no endorsement (voting yes) OLeary - No Rylaarsdam - Yes Aronson - Yes Thompson - Yes Fybel - No SUPERIOR CT - OFFICE 14: Haskins SUPERINTENDENT: no endorsement (reluctantly voting for Tuck whos not great, but hes a LOT better than Torlakson) PYLUSD: McCune (There is very little information to be found on Jim Brunette, so I cant endorse him. Mayor Nelson told me he is generally happy with both Buck and Freeman, but they are both Democrats, so I dont feel great about voting for them. As for McCune, she is a conservative Christian woman and a successful attorney whom you can find on Twitter if you want to see what shes all about. In the end, I decided to vote for McCune and leave the others blank.) ASSESSOR: no endorsement (Parrish has more conservative endorsements but Guillory seems more independent... coin toss for me) PLACENTIA CITY COUNCIL: Aguirre (After talking with Mayor Nelson, he agreed that Aguirre is the ONLY candidate worth supporting here and urged me to refrain from voting for both Green and Wanke.) PLACENTIA CITY CLERK: Melia (Running unopposed for re-election and Mayor Nelson said he has done a good job and supports him.) OC WATER DISTRICT - DIV 1: Brett Barbre (Diamond is a liberal kook) CA MEASURE 1: No (Mayor Nelson supports this one, but Im not convinced.) CA MEASURE 2: no endorsement (I leaned No because I read that it makes local schools more dependent upon the state, but Mayor Nelson convinced me that this should not be a concern in this particular scenario. He supports it, so I will probably go ahead and vote Yes.) CA MEASURE 45: No CA MEASURE 46: No CA MEASURE 47: YES! (There are Republicans and Democrats on both sides of the issue, but I imagine most liberty-minded people will fall in line to support this measure. If I understand it correctly, this is probably my favorite thing on the ballot.) CA MEASURE 48: no endorsement (Gambling should not be controlled by the state at all because it leads to corrupt deals for special interests like this one... but I am reluctantly voting yes because its better than total prohibition and it raises revenue without having to raise taxes) OC MEASURE E: No OC MEASURE G: Yes (I couldnt find any arguments against) NOCCCD MEASURE J: No
