Updates are hard to do, my free time to write them is at night & everyone is sleeping when the posts go up and miss them. So trying for daytime. First off is Makeish: Anyone who has been following the story of Mak knows that this horse has some serious attitude and defensive issues. On top of that has been the numerous lameness issues followed by an impaction colic. Progress with him has been anything But steady that is for sure. He has been at his home barn for the last couple months & we have been working steadily. I have mostly gotten rid of his desire to bite and act like a complete jerk. Hes still a jerk, just a small one now. We have been working on the trot to canter transition on the ground and a lot of walking and trotting under saddle. Some days he does fairly well under saddle, other days, it can be War between us. Last Tuesday he was working a hard trot & doing really well. He came right up to the canter and peered over at it, then decided, nope, he couldnt do it and kept the trot. It was really neat though and I was very excited about it. On Friday, we went back to working the walk and trot and he was actually doing pretty good. Smooth & leaving most of the argument out. Working a really fast trot and I am barely - just barely - giving him a bit of encouragement and ..... he did it, he finally broke the canter!!! The first two strides I wasnt sure he was there (a bit crooked I think) and then he went full canter, smooth, steady, controlled and halfway round the arena he went for me. Nice as you please before returning to the requested walk. It was soooooo awesome!! We only went one direction but he did it!! and without any fits, attitude, tossed head, pinned ears or thrown feet. I am so very proud of him!!! Andy does a lot of videotaping our lessons. I am going to try & post some in Maks folder and you can view them if you are interested.
