Updates from Salem State University: PARKING GARAGE PROJECT TO BE RE-PRESENTED AT THE SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY NEIGHBORHOOD ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SSUNAC) The focus of next week’s neighborhood meeting will be on the parking garage project at North Campus. The university will bring the project team for the parking garage, and they will review the design and development of the garage, re-presenting why this site was chosen, the traffic impacts and benefits at this location, and the physical design of the garage. Also per the request of attendees from the July meeting, the team will present a 3D model of the garage, demonstrating how it fits within the surrounding neighborhood. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 7 p.m. in the Sullivan Training Room (room 106) of the Enterprise Center located on Central Campus at 121 Loring Avenue. CONSTRUCTION UPDATES Off-Hour Work Turner Construction has informed the university that they will be installing piping between the two wings of the building at Viking Hall on Saturday, August 16 starting at 8 a.m. The university has also been notified that due to the rain from this week, paving in the Peabody Hall parking lot related to the drainage improvements has been moved to Saturday, August 16 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Viking Hall The contractor will continue with final detailing of the steel. Concrete slab placements continue and will likely take place Monday and Friday of next week. The contractor is expecting to continue slab placements and steel erection through September. The contractor will also continue with the installation of fire proofing and has started the installation of exterior walls. Canal Street Parking Lot The contractor has paved the lot and will continue with parking lot finishes. The lot is expected to be complete in August. North Campus Utility Upgrade The work to upgrade the drainage system in the Peabody Hall parking will be complete by the end of next week. The stock pile from the excavation will be removed by the beginning of September. Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts An updated schematic of the planned construction logistic plan for the Gordon Center renovation has been posted. Demolition work is expected to begin later this summer.
