Updates from the Cull Zone. Day 27. Sett-surveying started this - TopicsExpress

Updates from the Cull Zone. Day 27. Sett-surveying started this morning with one person running into a group of pheasant / pigeon shooters in an area of the cull zone which has had a lot of activity lately with regards to badgers. The pheasant shooting season officially started just days ago at the beginning of October and there were about 10 vehicles (many with BASC stickers) parked up in the fields and by the road. They were not best pleased when this lone female arrived and accused her of intimidating them so that they were too scared to leave the area... but the situation remained amicable. Thanks to everyone who made it out during the day, whether at 5am or to the 11am meeting point. The remainder of the day passed without much incident. We were unbelievably low on numbers this evening and into the night and were lucky that its a Saturday night which have generally been more quiet! But it has meant that people who were out all day had to stay on overnight, sleep in their cars or take it in turns to sleep. We did our best tonight and, while it was pretty quiet across the zone, there have already been a couple of shooting attempts and it is still only early morning. It was great to see Wounded Badger Patrollers out there, makes you feel a lot less isolated! Thank you also to the people who arrived with homemade bread, soup, curry and flapjack again and breaking up the night for the sett-guards - we keep hearing such good things about the food! It was a beautiful night with no cloud cover, the kind that office-sab absolutely loves - crisp, fresh, a good view of the stars... although its a little different if youre cold, tired and achy! Come and give a few hours relief to those who have been out since the beginning of all this...?! All the info youll need is in the note at the top of this page. GBO
