Upon first moving to Portland and going to a McMenamins restaurant I was filled with admiration! I spent my 20s not only flipping houses, but also working in financing commercial real estate. I was so passionate about remodeling, repurposing, decorating and overall real estate. A few years back I had a loan placement request from a guy who had bought a high school building for a dollar and was trying to turn it into a hotel with rooms where the classrooms would be guest rooms, some with individual and some with shared bathrooms, a few retail spaces and a restaurant where the former cafeteria was. I shopped the loan around for several months and every lender laughed and thought he was crazy!! When I came to Portland I realized that the McMenamins brothers had been successfully doing the exact same thing since the late 60s!! When I was looking for work four years ago, I looked at McMenamins, but they required 2-3 years of experience in the industry. So when I got hired as a hostess at one of their nicest restaurants (they have 53 hotel/restaurants in all!!) three weeks ago, it was a dream come true!! So far it has been an amazing experience!! Every single person working at Zeus Cafe, from management all the way down to dishwasher is so nice!!! I absolutely LOVE every single one of them!!! As I get to talk and personally get to know every single employee there, I absolutely love every single one of them!! I am so very happy working there!! Its not the kind of job that gets the bills paid as I only work 3hrs as day (except for 9hrs today!!), I just work there because I truly enjoy being there!! Tomorrow I have an interview for my grown up job, and that one doesnt sound half bad either. Life is good!
