Upon the sickening realization that three of our nations precious children were viciously abducted, murdered, and thrown away by deeply evil people, who live by their fetish with death and their hatred for us, I strive to share words of strength and comfort in response but, — I struggle to find them. Beyond the feelings of pain, sadness, despair and loss, I am left with the acute awareness that we are the bane of this world. We are, in spite of all those who pledge friendship, essentially alone. If this entire story were flipped, If Israel was the abductor, if Israel was the murderer, if the Jews, in cold blood, threw away the bodies of children they killed, would the world stay so excruciatingly indifferent? We will bear this pain as we have the pain and persecution of 3,000 years, which, with each layer, is exponentially magnified. We will bear it because, as much as we wish it were not so, that is who we are. And as we walk through this world, beaten and defeated at every step, we will watch our tormentors fail and fall away as they always have and always will, and the nation of Israel will remain — eternal. In this tragedy our nation has come together and is strong tonight. I pray that we remain together and strong, and in the strength of a unified Jewish people may the souls of Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and Naftali Frenkel be bound in eternal Life, and may their families find solace among the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim.
