Upsets in individual sports dont come any bigger than the one that took place early this morning. Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland entered the Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal with a career record of 0-12 against the Spaniard having lost all 26 sets the duo had ever played. Nadal, one of the sports all-time greats and the current world No. 1 ranked player, had never defeated a player more times without a defeat. Against those incredibly long odds, Wawrinka finally broke through winning 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The loss kept Nadal at least temporarily from tying Pete Sampras for second place all time with 14 major titles. Sampras was on hand to present the trophy which seemed to be a forgone conclusion, but instead of handing it to Nadal, he instead presented it to a grateful Wawrinka.
