Upstate, rust belt New York needs real economic development not lunatic fixes. I am a frequent visitor to the southern tier of NYS, which is the geographic focus of Jesse Mckinleys article but my sense differs significantly from what hes reporting (he finds disappointment in Cuomos decisions) . Fracking and casinos are not good solutions, imo. Ive heard very little support for fracking from the people Ive talked to. Further, theres already gambling in that neck of the woods and very little, if any, prosperity has emerged from it. Of course my proposed solutions are jobs through improved infrastructure, much better light rail, wind and solar power. (I also think theres much more room for growth in brewing, fermenting, distilling and dairy.) Tax the rich to pay for it.
