Uptown Bills Coffee House in Iowa City has a special place in my heart. Mike Munson and I finished our out-of-state leg of our tour here last April. We didnt know what to expect, but what happened was magical for me. A great space that is completely open-minded and accepting of everything and everyone, some great concessions, a solid base of community supporting live music, and a manager, Tom Gilsenan, who is one of the nicest human beings Ive met. I just played there a few weeks ago, and while I waited for my set, I ate a delicious bowl of potato chowder and listened to a local musicians set amongst 15 +/- people, a pin-drop audience that was engaged, entertained, and reciprocative of the energy the musicians were putting out. Its an amazing place that is asking for a little help, and I hope you take a minute to check it out, the story behind its namesake (A Friend Indeed - The Bill Sackter Story) and chuck a few bucks towards it. If every community had a place like this, the world would be a much better place ~ Jake Ilika
