Urban Flood Disaster in Guwahati; A Holistic Mitigation & Preparedness Strategy... Guwahati is the ‘gateway’ channel for the seven sisters of the north-east region of India. As per official Census Report 2011, the population has surpassed 963429. With such inclining demographic transition the city is observing logistics congestion & over-load of generated waste. Real estate is booming to design & construct houses for the middle class urban inhabitant outskirts of the Guwahati City. Despite of the fact there is going on an unplanned construction forming congested colonies without proper drainage & sewerage channels. Such newly growing congested colonies are becoming so densely populated that they severely lack basic urban amenities. Such colonies violate the housing norms. Mass immigration is the major cause of drastic demographic transition. With the advent of Monsoon every year, the Guwahati City has been witnessing an urban flash flood due to collapsed under-capacity drainage & sewerage networks.
