Urgent issue for all Watertown Residents Dear Victory Field - TopicsExpress

Urgent issue for all Watertown Residents Dear Victory Field Neighbors, Happy New Year to all of you! Our East End neighbors need our support. There is a proposal to build a 5-story, 50’ high, 103 room hotel on the old Atlantic Battery site at 80 Elm Street. The hotel is rumored to be a Red Roof Inn. Long time residents are justifiably upset about the impact of this project – its size, the high activity level, and the additional traffic on such a narrow neighborhood street. Councilor Angie Kounelis strongly opposes this hotel project, which she believes will overwhelm this neighborhood. The developers have scheduled an information meeting regarding this project for January 20th at 7:00pm at the police station at 552 Main Street. While the developers are following the “letter of the law” in only informing abutters within the 300’ feet notification radius of this project, I believe it is a cynical tactic, given the mix of residences and small businesses in the wider area. As we recognize, these developments affect all of us in our 4 square mile city. Please note that this meeting will be held out of the East End district! Councilor Kounelis believes that this will present a hardship for a number of her constituents who would like to attend this meeting to voice their serious concerns. As you all know, people from every corner of Watertown came out to support our opposition to Victory Field Phase 2. We were able to change the course of events because we shared our concerns, brainstormed options, organized, and helped people understand that Victory Field belongs to everyone, and that we are ALL Watertown. So let me end where I started. Our East End neighbors need our support! Please attend this meeting at the Police Station, on January 20th at 7:00pm. Call me if you need a ride. Many thanks, Elodia Thomas 67 Marion Road 617-926-3952
