Urging everyone with kids to take them for an eye test TOMORROW! I - TopicsExpress

Urging everyone with kids to take them for an eye test TOMORROW! I took Ben to the Optometrist for initial testing for Behavioural Optometry testing. They do a normal eye test first and he failed miserably, did not even get to the behavioural testing. His eyesight is very poor in his right eye and he has been compensating by using his left eye. For those that understand this - he tested at needing lenses +8 in the right eye and +4 in the left eye. He needs to wear glasses at all times and because it has been left for sooooo long (should have been picked up at alot earlier age) there is no guarantee the glasses will work or improve his eyesight in his right eye at all as his right eye is now classified as a "lazy eye". We need to "trick" his brain into using the sight in his right eye again and this will involve therapy. I did not notice anything about his eyesight at all. He has been coping like this since when? Because there was no change in his eyesight and no "eye turn" I did not notice anything at all except that he is skipping works when reading and he was turning his head slightly. All of the specialists and schools and therapists we have seen and not one person suggested an eye test - I took him there today off my own back. More money and more therapy for Ben - now need to add Behavioural Optometrist to his ever growing list of Specialists. Feeling defeated :(
