A: One year, running from July to June. This timeline allows Fellows to complete their studies, take time to transition, and spend a summer month in training with their Fellows class, arriving at their Community Partners as business returns to normal schedule after Labor Day. Q: Will Fellows be paid? A: Total compensation for MBA Fellows is roughly $50,000, through a combination of a $24,200 living stipend; a $5,500 educational award that can be used for loan repayment or additional educational expenses; and additional allowances for housing, transportation, and food. Fellows will be eligible for federal student loan deferment during their year of service, and will receive health insurance, child care reimbursement, and sick/vacation time. Q: Who is the ideal candidate for the Fellowship? A: The B Corps Fellowship is intended for recent MBA and Bachelor’s degree recipients with a passion for using business as a force for good. We’re looking for highly motivated, hard-working people with diverse backgrounds, experience, personalities, and skills who are equally comfortable leading teams or making their teammates better. We’re looking for people with a track record of managing multiple projects, including both internal and external team members, and delivering superior results under tight timelines. We’re looking for people who are fun to be around and take their work but not themselves seriously. Candidates with majors, concentrations, coursework, or internship experience in relevant areas (e.g. social entrepreneurship, impact investing, sustainability, etc.), and prior team management and/or consulting experience are particularly attractive. A: Fellows will work through Community Partners that serve or support small businesses. These Community Partners may include a variety of institutions that are interested in advancing ‘business as a force for good’ within their networks, portfolios, or supply chains such as: • Accelerators and incubators • Chambers of commerce • Corporate supply chain departments • Fund managers and investors • Government agencies • Industry associations • Universities Q: Will any Fellows be placed with B Lab? A: Yes. Some Fellows will be placed with B Lab, helping to manage and build the partnerships, programs, and technology platforms to serve and scale the B Corps Fellows program. These Fellows will assist with program design, execution, evaluation, and knowledge sharing and will help B Lab develop partnerships with colleges and universities across the country as part of B Lab’s ‘B Corps on Campus’ initiative, incorporating similar content into graduate and undergraduate classes, courses, and career services. Q: Where will Fellows be placed geographically? A: For the 2015 launch year, Fellows will be placed with Community Partners in New York City, Philadelphia, the Bay Area, and/or the Denver/Boulder region. These communities all have strong B Lab staff and community support, including large and engaged communities of Certified B Corporations. Q: What exactly will the Fellows actually do? A: B Corps Fellows will be trained to work in teams through Community Partners helping thousands of companies to measure and manage the positive impact of their business on their workers, communities, and the environment with as much rigor as they measure and manage their profits. Fellows will run workshops and webinars, present at conferences, facilitate peer groups, and engage in one-on-one consulting on how to use the B Impact Assessment and B Analytics to help companies use their business as a force for good.
