Congress Back for Lame Duck Session - The 113th Congress returned to Washington on Wednesday for a Lame Duck session. The major item of unfinished business will be passage of a continuing resolution for funding the government (the current CR expires on December 11, 2014). Committee hearings will be held in both the House and Senate on the federal governments handling of the Ebola epidemic. Looking Forward to the 114th Congress - Organizational meetings for the new Congress take place this week. The 114th Congress officially convenes in January. The new Congress will feature: The highest number of Republican members since 1928, including 22 women (23 if Martha McSally retains her lead in the recount in Arizona) A record six Republican women in the U.S. Senate, including newly elected Joni Ernst (IA) and Shelley Moore Capito (WV). More Regulation of the Internet - On Monday, President Obama called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to more heavily regulate Internet providers and treat broadband much as it would a public utility. Republican leaders have criticized the regulatory expansion, warning of a chilling effect on the Internet and on jobs created through e-commerce and the Internet economy. Loretta Lynch Nominated for Attorney General - President Obama has nominated Loretta Lynch to serve as the nations Attorney General, replacing Eric Holder.
