Utrecht, Jacob Mulenga Part Company Zambian striker Jacob Mulenga has parted company with Netherlands club FC Utrecht following the closure of the Dutch Eredivisie league. The club announced on its official website that Mulenga who has spent five seasons in Netherlands will not be part of next season. Mulenga’s contract with Utrecht is due to end next month but with the season coming to an end; the 30 year old has been given the all clear to look elsewhere for his next football expedition. Arguably Zambia’s most consistent campaigner in Europe, where he first starred for FC Chateauroux in the French Ligue2 and had a spell in Ligue1 with FC Strasbourg Mulenga has been there since 2004. His stay in Netherlands saw him net 45 goals in 112 appearances, a testimony of his caliber. He was FC Utrecht’s leading goal scorer in two seasons despite having been blighted by injuries. “FC Utrecht has won at the end of their final match and said goodbye to a number of players. Also trainer Jan Wouters and FC Utrecht-man Henk Vonk waved goodbye,” said the club. “Jacob Mulenga is another player in this list (exit list) that is the in best interest for the club. In 112 matches, he scored 45 times. He overcame some heavy injuries and fought his way always back strongly.” Mulenga has not been short of suitors and should be looking to take a new experience with a move to England having been touted several times.
