Uttarakhand Flood Relief Work - 2013 By RAMAKRISHNA MISSION, BELUR MATH - A Brief Report as on 01.07.2013 In the wake of the unprecedented devastation caused by cloud-burst and flash floods in a major portion of Uttarakhand, Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math has undertaken relief work in the affected areas through its Kankhal (Haridwar) centre. A relief camp has been established at a place called Agastya Muni, about 25 kms from Rudraprayag. Cooked food packets {each packet containing a loaf of bread, rusk, puri, pickle, sweets, etc.), baby-food and water bottles were distributed among 5000 affected people. Moreover, 3100 kg chira (rice flakes), 1100 kg atta (flour), 1050 kg sugar, 11,090 kg gur (mollasses), 16,060 kg dalia (wheat granules), 4000 candles, 12,000 matchboxes, 4800 packets of biscuits, 5000 kg salt, 8000 pcs of bun, 4000 packets of rusk, 1515 kg milk powder, 12,000 pcs of cake, etc. were distributed among nearly 600 families belonging to 20 inaccessible villages between Rudraprayag and Gupta Kashi. A Medical Camp, established at Ganganagar, some 6-7 kms from Agastya Muni, provided much needed medical treatment to 460 flood-affected patients. The relief work will be further expanded depending upon the then pressing situation.
