Uzbekistan to direct 1.2 trillion soums to road construction, reconstruction Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily) -- Uzbekistan will direct over 1.2 trillion soums to construction and reconstruction of automobile roads in 2013, the head of department on construction, repair of automobile roads and perspectives of industry development of Uzavtoyol Nodir Husanov said in interview with UzA. Republican Road Fund will allocate over 870 billion soums to construction and reconstruction of roads. Uzbekistan also plans to attract resources of international financial institutions for about US$120 million. Nodir Husanov said that Uzbekistan plans to construct and reconstruct about 526 km of automobile roads, which are part of the Uzbek national highway. He said that it is planned to construct 440 km of new roads. Uzbekistan plans to improve 86 km of roads. It is also planned to reconstruct 71 km of roads at Qamchiq pass and construct several bridges and passages. Currently, Uzbekistan has 183,000 km of automobiles roads, of which 42,600 km are roads of general use. The length of Uzbekistan highway is 2,755 km. There are also 67,200 km of inter-economic rural roads, over 61,600 km of rural and city streets, 5,400 km of enterprises’ roads, etc. Specialists of Republic Road Fund noted that Uzbekistan used 31.6 billion soums to construction and reconstruction of roads in 2006, while the figure rose up to 654 billion soums and US$159 million in 2012. Uzbekistan completed construction and reconstruction about 500 km of modern four-lane automobile roads in 2012. Some 163 km of roads were covered with cement concrete pavement and 335 km – asphalt concrete payment. In line with the programme for 2011-2015, Uzbekistan plans to construct new roads for 2,306 km, including 1,410 km of four-lane roads and 288 km of two-lane roads with cement and asphalt pavement.
