U̲N̲C̲’̲s̲ ̲P̲R̲O̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲d̲e̲m̲n̲s̲ ̲D̲i̲r̲t̲y̲ ̲P̲o̲l̲i̲t̲i̲c̲s̲ Public Relations Officer of the United National Congress Rodney Charles today condemned recent events which point to a campaign of “dirty politics”. Mr. Charles referred to the placement of flyers with racist messages on vehicles at a popular entertainment area in Port of Spain, and an on-line publication which is aimed at attacking politicians. “The UNC strongly condemns any acts of racism or discrimination, as well as attempts to smear the reputations of any citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,” Charles said. “The message contained in the flyer serves only deviance, and in fact it must be seen as an open and calculated act of hostility against the people of Trinidad & Tobago.” The UNC PRO added that allegations contained in an online publication which is being circulated on blogs and other social media channels, are part of an outrageous and despicable smear campaign by political opponents trying to bring the party into disrepute. “These attempts at creating panic and tension within the society are unacceptable, and are symptomatic of individuals or groups with absolutely no vision or concern for the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” Charles added. “The UNC completely disassociates itself from these reprehensible acts. The party has made tremendous effort to embrace a more issues-based, people-centred, and progressive kind of politics.” “The UNC, through the sound leadership of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, continues to work with its partners in the People’s Partnership Government to advance the development of the country for all its citizens,” Charles stated. “We urge those involved in this type of activity to cease and desist, in the interest of the people.”
