VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS), The Employee Association and the Federal Women’s Program will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Candle Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 4:30 p.m., held at the Danville VA at 1900 East Main Street. Breast cancer affects the lives of real people in our communities. It not only affects those with the breast cancer, but also all of their family and friends. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Federal Women’s Program would like the Walk to honor those affected by this disease. The VA Federal Women’s Program offers a wide variety of services to assist our women Veterans with their physical and emotional needs. The walk is open to the entire community and they are welcome to come be a part of honoring those afflicted with this disease. So, let’s get our pink on and get involved. Signage will be placed at the main drive to direct and assist with parking. Important information about breast cancer risk factors, disease and early detection will be available. The walk will also feature information about breast cancer awareness and support along the route. New Horizon’s Breast Cancer Support Group will have a booth that will provide valuable information to support women affected by breast cancer. Monetary donations will be accepted the day of the walk with 75% of all donations going to New Horizon’s Support Group and 25% will be utilized by the Federal Women’s Program to sponsor future events.
