VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT KEMRI/CDC RESEARCH & PUBLIC HEALTH COLLABORATION Opening date: 09/06/2014 Vacancy No.K45/06/14 Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV, parasitology, TB and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the Malaria branch continuous Malaria Indicator Survey (cMIS) project has vacancy to fill. Position: Field Supervisor MR 8 or 9 (3 positions) Reporting: Study Coordinator Location: Siaya County ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in economics, Community health or social sciences or related field. 2 years’ experience in interviewing, data collection technique using electronic data collection tools at community level. Experience conducting Cross-sectional surveys including anthropometric measurements and blood sampling. JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the study coordinator, the job holder will be responsible for the day to day implementation of the Continuous Malaria Indicator Survey (CMIS) activities in a sub county within Siaya County. DESIRABLE QUALITIES: Experience in supervising field staff in a research set up. Fluent in English, Kiswahili and dholuo languages. Strong leadership, organizational and management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Have excellent numerical skills Good knowledge of malaria epidemiology Ability to ride a motorbike or willing to learn. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Conducting piloting phase of the study questionnaire. Supervise field teams on a day to day basis. Develop and ensure good working relationships with the community. Ensure field activities run smoothly throughout the study period. Ensure field supplies are in stock for the field teams at all times. Participate in field staff recruitment trainings. Solve problems on site and adequately respond to questions about the study posed by both study staff and the study community. Provide progress reports in a routine manner to study coordinator and the study principal coordinator. Ensure data upload is done in a fashionable manner Ensure safe specimen transportation and delivery to a designated place on a daily basis. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the study coordinator from time to time.
