Please click here for Application Form hiltoncollege/vacancies.html The Position – a vacancy on the permanent, full-time staff has arisen in respect of a Senior Laboratory Technician in the Life Sciences and Physical Sciences Departments. The position would report to the Heads of these two departments. The successful applicant is ideally expected to take up the post from 01 March 2015. Responsibilities of the post: • day-to-day running and maintenance of the laboratories in both departments; • co-ordinating and supervising assistant laboratory staff; • setting up laboratories for practicals and clearing up afterwards; • stocktaking and ordering of supplies; • organizing repairs and maintenance of equipment and laboratories; • preparation and replenishment of chemicals; • ensure the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment; • any other reasonable request made by the Head of Department to enable effective running of the department. Qualifications and Experience – the successful candidate will be in possession of some tertiary training in the Physical Sciences field and/or have experience as a Laboratory Technician. The candidate must be fluent in English, be computer literate and, as a minimum, have a Matric pass in Physical Science. He/she must also be trained in the safe use and disposal of hazardous chemicals according to health and safety guidelines. Key Competencies – the successful applicant is likely to possess the ability to be assertive but flexible; be self-motivating; have a strong work ethic; have excellent organisational and planning skills; have inter-personal skills and be in possession of a driver’s licence and a motorcar.
