SEND-Ghana in partnership with the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and the Credit Unions Association of Ghana (CUA Gh Ltd) is commencing the implementation of a 5- year Food Security through Co-operatives in Northern Ghana (FOSTERING) Project. The goal of the project is to increase sustainable, gender equitable food security for over 42,000 women and men in eight districts in the Eastern Corridor of Northern Ghana (East-Gonja, Kpandai, Nanumba South, Nanumba North, Krachi-Nchumuru, Zabzugu, Tatale-Sangule and Chereponi). The project tackles directly four key areas of improving food security and sustainable economic growth for small-holder farmers: improving production; better marketing of products; expansion of household activities into off-season businesses; and access to finance. Position: Nutrition and Home Processing Officer Job Location: Salaga Reporting to: Programme Officer Associates: All SEND Project and Field Officers Objectives of Position: To ensure gender equitable planning, implementation, monitoring and adoption of best nutrition practices among farm families in project target communities Duties, Roles and Responsibilities 1. Planning a. Planning and coordinating all nutrition related promotion activities in the project b. To work with other staff to plan nutrition related activities c. To plan nutrition related advisory services to the project d. Participate in the design/adaptation of appropriate nutrition education and promotion methods and tools, and pre-test them with the team and community members e. Work with gender project officer to develop a comprehensive plan for supervision of all field nutrition activities 2. Management a. Ensure nutrition promotion activities is integrated in the day-to-day project activities b. Work with the gender project officer in supervising and monitoring the implementation of the nutrition and home processing field activities c. Support the Ghana Health Service(GHS) in the implementation of nutrition advisory services to the project d. To prepare articles on nutrition related experiences of the project for the SEND website e. Be the main counterpart to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) responsible for arranging logistics, meetings and providing feedback to management f. Ensure regular meetings with Community Volunteer Health and Nutrition Agents (CHNAs) g. Work with CHNAs to develop a referral system at the community level in which community health workers refer malnourished children and mothers needing special attention to health facilities h. Work with the gender project officer to develop monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports on nutrition related activities 3. Training a. Work with gender project officer to identify the training needs of staff, Community Volunteer Health and Nutrition Agents (CHNAs) and stakeholders b. Work with gender project officer and the Ghana Health Service to develop relevant training manuals and tools and facilitate/co-facilitate all nutrition education trainings c. Work with staff to implement nutrition related trainings for stakeholders d. Carry out community based nutritional promotional activities targeting farm families and community groups. Activities include soya bean utilisation training, community outreach, growth monitoring and maternal nutrition 4. Monitoring and Evaluation • Work with M&E officer to ensure that all nutrition related promotion activities are adequately accounted for • Maintain a database of the trained and active CHNAs and farm families in the various communities • Ensure that recommendations and lessons learned are used to inform subsequent plans • Responsible for coordinating the collection of success stories on the implementation, lessons learned and good practice of household nutrition • Responsible for feedback to stakeholders, M&E findings and recommendations on nutrition related issues 5. Position: Agriculture Extension Field Officer (4 Positions) Job Location: Salaga, Kpandai, Borae and Zabzugu Reporting to: Agriculture and Climate Change Officer Objectives of Position: To ensure the effective dissemination, implementation and adoption of good environmentally friendly agronomic and animal husbandry practices to members of the family-based farmers’ co-operatives to enhance farmers’ knowledge about crop and husbandry techniques to increase productivity.
