VACANCY: Value Chain Marketing Sector Coordinator Deadline: 18 July, 2014 This position will be based at the Amalima Head Office, in Bulawayo About CNFA CNFA is a US-based nonprofit nongovernmental organization (NGO) that works to stimulate economic growth and improve rural livelihoods in the developing world by empowering the private sector through five core capabilities: (1) Productivity, Food Security and Nutrition; (2) Input Supply and Farm Services; (3) Economic Resilience and Rapid Recovery; (4) Value Chain Development; and (5) Volunteer Technical Assistance. CNFA assists smallholders in increasing household-level food security and nutrition through improved agricultural practices, introduction of new varieties, diversification of crop production, food preservation and storage, development of farmer-based organizations (FBOs) and strengthened linkages to markets. About Amalima The Value Chain Marketing Sector Coordinator will support the Amalima program, a 5-year USAID-funded Development Food Assistance Program (DFAP) that operates in Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South. The Amalima has the following Strategic Objectives: SO 1: Household Access to, and Availability of Food Improved SO 2: Community Resilience to Shocks Improved SO 3: Nutrition and Health Among Pregnant and Lactating Women, and Boys and Girls Under 2 Improved Position summary The Value Chain Marketing Sector Coordinator will be within the Amalima SO1&2 component technical team. S/he will oversee program activities to increase market linkages for crops and livestock, strengthen input and output marketing systems and increase market information sharing. The Value Chain Marketing Sector Coordinator will report directly to the SO1&2 lead. . S/he will work closely with other SO1&2 team members to: Train IP staff on new entry points into value chains Train IP staff on business marketing and financial literacy to new entry point individuals Train agro-dealers and farmer associations on negotiation and market information systems (MIS) Train agro-dealers in Business Management Facilitate matching grants for upgrading existing businesses and new and promising business ventures Link existing businesses to formal sector financial service providers Organize and support input fairs in the target Districts Maintain professional relationships with a range of Government agencies, statutory authorities, other councils, business proprietors, trader groups and service providers Being the technical lead person for the value chain and marketing intervention Work closely with the SO1&2 and SO3 Managers to manage relationships with actors in the main value chains including livestock (large and small), grains, legumes, horticulture, etc Develop a value chains / marketing manual for use in training farmers and their associations Liaise with current market information systems to explore new opportunities for dissemination of information to value chain players, with a focus on the potential use of mobile technology support links between input suppliers, agro-dealers and producers Plan the holding of input fares for both crops and livestock inputs Work with AGMARK to provide training to agro-dealers and farmers groups on business skills, negotiation, how to build market relationships and how to obtain market information Increase capacity of formal and informal farmer groups with training on technical and management skills, and provide information on production volumes in project areas, and locations Facilitate marketing arrangements between buyers and sellers in project areas and promotion of local sales where possible Strengthen agro-dealer associations as well as farmer representative bodies and commodity associations in linking them up with relevant bodies for improved performance Act as the primary liaison with international NGOs and Zimbabwe Government agencies for strengthening of relevant value chain and marketing systems Engage with MEL Manager on program impact data collection and research opportunities Work closely with Gender Specialist to ensure gender mainstreaming efforts are a component of all program activities along value chains Produce quarterly and annual reports in line with FFP requirements Job Requirements: Desirable minimum qualifications for this position include Masters degree in Business studies, Economics or Agribusiness or any other relevant qualification Progressively responsible work experience in managing complex project(s), and at least five years of project management, agribusiness advisory, value chains and/or marketing experience Experience in USAID-funded program(s); DFAP experience is highly desirable At least five years in a supervisory capacity or experience managing teams of at least five direct reports Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with wide range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing Demonstrated ability to collaborate, willingness to innovate and ability to think systematically Proven experience in managing multiple and competing tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines To apply Qualified candidates especially women are encouraged to send their CVs with the job title in the subject line to: Amalima.consultancy.services@gmail Deadline: 18 July 2014
