VACANCY closing today! 15th January INTERNATIONAL POSITION IN GHANA Association of African Universities Communications & Publications Officer Location: AAU Secretariat – Accra-Ghana Category: JP Emoluments: Per AAU’s Conditions of Service Contract Type: Two years renewable Closing Date: January 15, 2015 The Association of African Universities, an international NGO is seeking to recruit a Communications and Publications Officer to join its dynamic team at its Secretariat located at Accra, Ghana. Ø Support the Director of Communications in creating and delivering effective campaigns and projects Ø Lead on the production of a range of publications to help deliver the Association’s message to a diverse audience. Ø Work collaboratively across the organization, to ensure that all colleagues have access to accurate and up-to-date information to allow them to work effectively. Ø Work closely with AAU’s management and communications teams, to develop and implement the Association’s impact strategy and its associated annual impact and communications plans by: o (i) supporting and developing activities which promotes a continual dialogue with research and non-research communities; o (ii) facilitating extensive engagement with wider audiences; o (iii) facilitating intensive engagement by the staff of the Secretariat; o (iv) facilitating formal engagement with decision-makers and other stakeholders; and o (v) facilitating informal engagement, by building on the extensive network of contacts that have been developed to date. Ø Develop key messages from AAU’s projects and work with the Project Officers and Coordinators to communicate them effectively through a broad range of media, including the website (news stories, working papers), special publications (briefing notes, policy briefs), academic publications and mainstream and social media. Ø Provide support for the wide range of events the Association hosts, from expert workshops to large public debates and academic seminars, taking a lead on promotion including where relevant, media coverage. Ø In addition to coordinating the AAU’s external communications, you will ensure that communications across the various departments of the Secretariat and between AAU and its membership is effective and they promote and support the Association’s work. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Ø Master’s Degree in a Relevant FieldØ Experienced and professional individual with a proactive and positive approach to their work. Ø Prior experience in a communications or marketing role is crucial, ideally within the not- for- profit- sector. Ø The ideal candidate will be creative and proactive with exceptional communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Ø The ability to manage multiple and complex projects simultaneously will also be key to success in this role. Term Ø The contract will be for a period of two (2) years, subject to a probationary period of one (1) year. Renewable but subject to availability of fund. Ø The position requires extensive travel outside Ghana. Conditions of Employment Ø The AAU offers an attractive remuneration package calculated and paid in US dollars; Ø Annual leave of twenty-one (21) working days Ø Other attractive benefits include a monthly post-adjustment allowance and rent subsidy How to Apply The AAU is an equal opportunity employer.
