VANDALISM: Dele Belgore seeks arrest of SA to Governor Ahmed ============ Senior lawyer and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Dele Belgore (SAN), has asked the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, to immediately cause the arrest and prosecution of an unnamed newly appointed Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, over alleged vandalism of posters and billboards belonging to Belgore on the eve of the Muslim Eid Fitr festival. In a petition addressed to the Police commissioner by Mr. Belgore, and dated 30th July, 2014, a copy of which was exclusively obtained by eKwara, the PDP chieftain alleged that several of his posters and billboard mounted to felicitate with Muslims on the Eid celebration, were either deliberately defaced or had the presidential campaign posters of an erstwhile Governor of Kwara State, Sen. Bukola Saraki, super-imposed on them. The letter, which was signed by one Olatunji Ajanaku, Personal Adviser (PA) to Mr. Belgore, another APC chieftain simply identified as Abdulrasheed Major, was also fingered as one of the brains behind the vandalism. The letter reads in part: “On 27th July 2014 at exactly 2.15am, our crew, who are supporters of Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) were on the major streets of Ilorin, pasting posters of our leader to commemorate the Eid El-Fitr celebration. We pasted posters along Unity, New Yidi, Asa dam, Garin Alimi, Oja oba and Omoda areas.” “While we were busy doing our own job, along came a car bearing the duo of a well known, Special Assistant to Gov. Ahmed on recreation and one AbdulRasheed Major. Even though we exchanged greetings, we nevertheless believed they were out to spy for the next gang of destroyers that invaded the streets right after we left around 3.30am.” “By 5am, when we went out to inspect, we discovered that 90% of our posters have either been torn or posters of Dr Bukola Saraki pasted on them. We interviewed security agencies posted on Eid praying ground and they told us that a crew of nearly 15 boys on motorbikes aka okada followed by a car suspected to be that of the government offficials, invaded the new yidi road and either covered our posters with that of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki or simply tore off the wall, posters of Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN.” “This we view as flagrant disregard for a free space for all parties to operate. What’s more, while our poster was merely felicitating with Kwarans on the Eid Celebration, theirs was about Second Term for Gov Ahmed and Presidency for Senator Saraki.” We therefore requests that this matter be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators brought to book. We could go out there and take revenge measures but our principal being a man of the law would rather play it by the rules- An eye for an eye would only leave us with a society of blind people but our peaceful approach to politics should not be misconstrued as meekness.” E-kwara recalls that the menace of vandalism has escalated over the last few days within the Ilorin metropolis. Just today, the Kwara State chapter of the APC alleged that some of its billboards were vandalized by alleged PDP supporters. But the PDP fired back, describing the APC allegations as reckless and hasty. The PDP alleged that APC constituted itself as the complainant, the jury and the executioner! It therefore asked the ruling to look inwards for saboteurs within its fold that might be responsible for the vandalism.
