VANUATU | Vanuatu’s weather patterns are changing as the planet warms up, undermining the island nation’s ability to feed itself, according to Shirley Laban, #Oxfam’s climate change manager for the country. Prolonged warm and dry spells are reducing water availability for many of Vanuatu’s 250,000-plus population. Rainfall when it arrives is becoming more intense, cutting output of the island cabbage, a staple for many residents. “Human food security is the biggest challenge for us,” Oxfams Ms Laban said, ahead a speaking tour SPP: Vanuatus population has grown from 50,000 in 1950 to now around 250,000. Fertility is around 4 children per woman. What is #Oxfam saying about this, the prime reason for Vanuatus food insecurity? From what we can see, nothing.
