VARSITY CLUB LAUDS GOV. ORJI FOR APPOINTMENT OF NTO AS COMMISSIONER: The Senior Staff Club Association of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia has applauded Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State for appointing one of her prominent members, Dr Philips Nto as Commissioner for Finance. The club members who described the appointment as well deserved, said they were excited because it was the first time a member of the University Community was appointed a member of Abia State Executive Council. Chairman of the club, Mr Patrick Okudo who spoke at a reception for the Commissioner assured the Governor of the support of the university community towards the execution of his laudable programmes and policies. He said Gov. Orji had through that singular gesture given the members the confidence and leverage they needed to be like other universities whose members are in the various state executive councils. Mr Okudo described Dr Nto as one of the best in the university, saying that all the assignments he handled for the school were successfully executed. Responding, Dr Nto commended his colleagues for the honour done him, noting that it showed that love and unity existed among all the members. The Commissioner said his appointment demonstrated that Gov. Orji as a highly educated scholar has great regards for the academic community and urged them to reciprocate that gesture by supporting him with useful advice and prayers. Dr Nto said as scholars, the members of the club should not shy away from dissecting the policies of the government and proffer workable solutions to any of them that suffers defect. “I believe that through objective assessment of government policies and programmes, the leadership will adjust to serve the populace better”, he said. He described the Governor as a high achiever whose sterling performance is consistent with his vision to lay a solid foundation for the sustainable growth of the state. Dr Nto noted that it was in recognition and appreciation of Chief Orji’s achievements that the people of Abia Central Senatorial District are persuading him to represent them in the Senate come 2015.
