VASTA Conference adventures, from 6PM-midnight, August 5th. #1: meeting up with my wonderful dialect and voice pals, especially Marina Tyndall, Amy Stoller, Jason Greenfield, Philip Thompson, Erik Singer, Andrea Caban, Cynthia DeCure, Lester Shane and others... #2 meeting pros Ive known only via the interwebs like Eric Armstrong, but whom Ive counted on as comrade and colleague nevertheless through the years... #3 making new friends! #4 listening and watching keynote speakers Cicely Berry and Kristen Linklater describe what Voicing the Future, the conferences theme, looks like to them... #5 meeting up with Madeline and my dear friend and Portlands own Foxfinder playwright Dawn King in a shabby, empty florescent cafe to talk about life and art and love and sea shanty singing... and an unexpected #6: having Kristen Linklater come into that same lonely little cafe for a late-night snack; having her join us to share ideas on the future of the world and the power of word. Having her tell me she knows my work well, and respects it lots. All this on the first night of conference. Who knows what riches tomorrow will bring?
