VB NSW Cup Match Report Mounties v North Sydney Saturday 16th August 2014 GIO Stadium Canberra Mounties have consolidated their place in the top eight of the VB NSW Cup competition with a comprehensive 40-0 routing of the North Sydney Bears at GIO Stadium Canberra. Mounties started the match in fine style when Jack Ahearn pounced on a Reece Goldsmith grubber close to the line in the 2nd minute and Mounties led 4-0 after the conversion went wide. In the 10th minute Mounties were in again when Mosese Pangai received the ball close to the line and was too strong for the defenders and it was then 8-0 after the conversion from Joe Bond hit the posts. Play then went end to end with both teams guilty of poor handling and missed options and in the 32nd minute it was Joe Bond who broke the stale mate when he dummied and took on the line, spearing through the other side to score and make it 12-0 after the conversion was missed again. Mounties then blew a golden opportunity for another try when they pushed the pass and forced a hand over however minutes later Reece Robinson tok a quick 20 metre tap kick and caught the defence napping, racing 80 metres to score under the posts and at the half time Mounties led 18-0. Mounties didnt take long to get on the board in the second half with Shane Shackleton steaming on to a short ball from Lagi Setu to open the points, touching down under the posts and it was quickly 24-0. In the 50th minute Mosese Pangai got his double when he crossed out wide to make it 28-0 and soon after Sami Sauiluma in his 50th VB NSW Cup game for Mounties found some huge gaps in the defensive line and weaves his way 50 metres before offloading to Jeremy Hawkins and Mounties led 34-0. Mounties were looking to improve their for and against and in the 79th minute they did that when Mosese Pangai crossed for his third when a neat ball from Jack Ahearn off the ground found the defence wrong footed and Pangai was able to stroll over and with the conversion by Matt Place from the side line it was 40-0. Mounties next game is against the Penrith Panthers at Liechhardt Oval next Saturday. #UpTheMulga
