VCF 50er ride report. Thanks for leading Guy Anderson. From Guy, Ride Report for the East 50 Miler So I punctured 200 yards from VCF HQ, a great start to a great ride out. It just meant I had plenty of help in the form of Tony Wainwright, Richard Brown, Richard Broughton who were ready and waiting; as was a new face Andrew from Farndon. Tubs Broughton wrestled with my rim as Tony eased me full with his CO2 canister,(thats your ration of Carry On Innuendo) we were off! It was windy OK, was it windy? yes it was windy, as we tacked across the lower Vale towards the lovely Colston Basset straight into the now savage mostly westerly . We passed the Martins Arms, discussed its previous management, and I regretted recounting a story about said management and a close escape, following a complaint about a dodgy bottle Chateau Neuf De Pap. It was all very Royston Vasey After 24 top close formation miles we found our way seamlessly to Long Clawson, but then the seems broke and Sands Deli disappeared! Like the Pimpernel it was lost in some Belvoir Triangle(sorry). Long by name and long by nature, we found the Deli in the end; but only after Rich B stopped a local parishener off to church, with the is it up or down love quote Luckily we got in first of the 3 VCF Groups and bagged the top table, with massive Egg and Bacon Baguettes. Andrew we discover is a brown sauce kinda guy, but added a whole new dimension, by adding sausage, would be red sauce. Richard Brown then took it to a new level with Hot Dog, mustard, red sauce and chilli! All kinds of American wrong. We chatted to the faster paced 50, Jet Lagged Jules, and knee less Mick, and vacated to give the 35 milers our table. On leaving we met LoveStephen in the back yard desperately trying to fix Nicolas bike, despite servicing and polishing his own velo, he had neglected to fix hers the night before; and no we didnt have can of WD40 Off we sped; wind behind, tapping along at 23mph; thoughts turned to mutual corporate servitude, in various private and public sector jobs. Richard Brown was smiling as the only retiree amongst us, until he learned we all planned to use our redundancy notice periods riding our bikes from his house in Murcia Spain! On we sped, right turn for the haul up Harby Hill where new Andrew realised he enjoyed hills slightly less than red sauce on bacon. Dr Dan flew past downhill, to a formal hello; solo in Canary yellow, legs akimbo Dick Brumby stylee! On to Belvoir Ridge and we were flying. Dry roads, wind behind, sunny skies views stretching for miles; then new Andrew had a blow out. Fortunately Tony had enough puff in his CO2 to expand Andrews rim, (stop) Down and out of Knipton, a dash down Woolsthorpe Hill and then the slog back through Bottesford into wind. Back in time for tea and medals, great ride top day thanks Guy
