***VCMS PARENTS TAKE NOTE OF EXCELLENCE AT OUR SCHOOL*** The California League of Middle Schools is an organization dedicated to middle school success and reform. In addition to sponsoring professional development throughout the state, the League sponsors a yearly “educator of the year” competition, honoring exemplary middle school educators. It is a great pleasure to announce that VCMS math teacher Damian Coleman has been selected as a finalist for the educator of the year honor for region 8, which includes Los Angeles, Ventura, and northern Orange Counties. As a finalist, Mr. Coleman will be honored at a dinner in early December where he will present a speech on his passion for middle school education. At the dinner, one of the nine finalists will be selected to represent the region in the statewide competition. Mr. Coleman was chosen because he exhibits many of the traits that make a middle school teacher great. He runs a classroom that is organized, exciting, and engaging. He makes math relevant to his students and shares his love of his subject with them. He takes the time to truly get to know his students as individuals, so he can design a curriculum that meets their needs. In short, he uses the strategies that are the hallmarks of our school.
