VDF terminated from service in vehicle lifting case MU NEWS/IMPHAL, July 23 : Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam who holds the home porfolio informed the house of 60 members that altogether 237 vehicle lifters including 10 security personnel were arrested in the last two years or so. Minister was giving reply to aanother similar question of NCP MLA L Ibomcha of Keishamthong seat in imphal West district in the days assembly session. Altogether 116 vehicle lifters were arrested in 2012(April 1-Dec 31),83 in 2013(January 1-Dec 31) and 38 in 2014(January 1-Dec 31).The arrested 10 security personnel includes four from Indian Reserve Battalion, three each of police and village defence force(VDF) personnel, according to the home minister. So far 109 vehicles were returned to the vehicle owner and no money has been refunded, he further added. However 21 vehicles not yet returned due to lack of formalities. Of the arrested 237 vehicle lifters, 193 are in the judicial custody while 44 were released on bail. “One case has been chargesheeted and other cases are under investigation and final form(charge sheet or final report) is being submitted as early as possible”, says home minister. “Department actions have been initiated against the involved security personnel, placing them under suspension and initiating departmental enquiries against them, besides FIR cases. One VDF personnel has been terminated from service.”
