VENDORS SOUGHT FOR NEW SUMNER FARMERS MARKET By CLAY McFERRIN Sun-Sentinel Editor SUMNER — For the first time ever, Sumner will host a farmers market this year. Rain or shine, beginning May 29, the market will be held on the town’s Court Square every Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Lydia Dunavent heads the Sumner Farmers Market Team, which is working to round up prospective vendors for the new endeavor. In a letter, vendors are being invited to gather “around our historical town square with community support eager to sample your offerings.” The letter adds, “We expect residents of Tutwiler, Sumner, Webb, Brazil and Glendora to support this market.” The cost to rent booth space is $5 per week for vendors selling produce. The market also hopes to attract vendors offering plants, baked goods, handmade crafts and specialty items, according to a promotional poster. Monthly featured artistans can showcase their items for $20, the poster noted. Periodic musical guests are planned to spice up the event. Anyone wanting more information about the Sumner Farmers Market may contact Dunavent at 645-1998 or by sending an email to sumnerfmarket@gmail.
