VENTING: Offering the opportunity for extra credit is an act of pure love and I dont think my students grasp the magnitude of the gesture, in that all the work is turned in on the last day of class (along with papers and projects due at the same time) and I have over 200 students, and many turn in 10 or more articles with short essays, all of which I actually read, articles and all. I had a record of over 150 article submissions alone this semester plus almost 50 extra credit papers that average about 8-10 pages. Grading one of these papers, which entails commenting, (I have to, even if I think theyll never read them), can take up to 30 minutes, sometimes longer. In addition to all this, I have to grade the non-extra credit stuff, like Promotions Management class projects/papers and all the ancillary media that comes with them. I dont have to do ANY of this extra credit stuff and I often ask myself why I continue to, especially after the abuse I received from one of my classes this semester. Im still grading all this stuff and so much of it fails to follow the guidelines I provided. I even provided a caveat section of what NOT to do and anybody want to guess how many people did all the things I said to resist the temptation to do? This is beyond frustrating. Grade posting deadline is at 9:00 AM and Ive got two classes done and two to go, but the biggest and most beastly of those is almost finished. Im exhausted, but Im going to make it. I always do.
