VERY BOLD PREDICTION! The Carolina Panthers will enter the playoffs as the TOP SEED! I dont want this to happen, and they trail Seattle by two games and New Orleans by one, but they have a much easier schedule than either of the top two teams in the NFC. Their only two tough games are against the Saints, and I think thats a bad match-up for the Saints. But even if they split the two games, Carolinas other three remaining games are relative cupcakes: Atlanta, Tampa and the NY Jets. After their slow 1-3 start, I think they will end the season no worse than 12-4 and very possibly 13-3. On the other hand, New Orleans faces the Seahawks in Seattle, Carolina twice, and a resurgent St. Louis team that has crushed Chicago and Indianapolis in consecutive weeks. The Saints will lose at least two of those and very possibly three. Im not sure what the tie-breaker would be if the Saints and Panthers end up with the same final record and split their head-to-head games, but Carolina has a good chance to pass the Saints. Meanwhile, how could Seattle drop so far as to get passed by Carolina? Try on this final schedule: Saints at home, 49ers in San Francisco, on the road against the resurgent Giants, and two tough games against that resurgent St. Louis team and then Arizona, which is currently winning its fourth game in a row in very impressive fashion, leading Indy 34-3. Lucky for the Seahawks that they beat Carolina in the first game of the season because they could very easily end up also with a 12-4 record by the end of this tough schedule, especially with recent injuries and suspensions in their defense. Seattle, Carolina and New Orleans could all end up 12-4, which would require multiple tie-breakers. The two most important games in this scenario both involve New Orleans, next week in Seattle and then at home against Carolina. If they lose both, Carolina would likely end the season 13-3. It will actually be to Carolinas benefit if the Saints upset Seattle and Seattle then loses on the road against the 49ers. A sweep of New Orleans would then probably give them the top spot in the NFC playoffs.
