VERY EXCITED, having spent the afternoon with a visitor to the Hemp House. Joey Simmons teaches school at the Shopville School in Pulaski County, KY. Joey, and his students, are doing extensive research about their Shopville School, which sits on the old settlement lands of our family’s John M. James. Joey has done an extraordinary job of identifying and locating the historic configurations of the school as it developed over generations from the early 1800s to today. A number of James family descendants, mainly among the Herrin family, have taught at Shopville. While I provided him with numerous photos, background, and location information of James family landmarks, he provided this image of Allen Custer Herrin (L) and his students. Herrin is the son of Susan Harriatt James & grandson of the “talented, but erratic” Rev. Joseph Martin James. As expected, I always learn something new when someone calls upon me for what I know. Today was no different. Our newest James family researcher is a goldmine of fine research!
