The mark of the beast is designed to do just that. It repudiates God’s commandments, and accepts a pseudo Sabbath and holidays which appear to be holy, but were never sanctioned by God. The mark of the beast is a demonstration of a persons rejection of God’s authority. Consider that most denominations assert we should keep Sunday as our day of worship. Despite the fact that observance of the first day of the week cannot be found anywhere in the Bible, billions cling to this day as a sign of their faith. But where did the observance of Sunday come from? The Catholic Church openly acknowledges that during the period of the Holy Roman Empire they alone were responsible for instituting the observance of Sunday in place of God’s commanded Sabbath. Though the Scriptures make no provision for this change, they claim to possess authority greater than the Bible and have presumptuously altered the law of God. Consider just a few of the many outrageous statements from this organization: Sunday is a Catholic institution, and its claims to observation can be defended only on Catholic principles... From beginning to end of scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first (The Catholic Press, Sydney, Aug. 25, 1900). Sunday is our mark of authority. The church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact (The Catholic Record, Sept. 1, 1923).
