VERY INTERESTING INDEED........... HEADLINES: DRDO to abandon indigenous fighter jet engine Kaveri project. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has decided to wind up the Kaveri engine (GTX-35VS ) programme, signaling an end to a desi dream of equipping its own fighter jet with a home-grown power plant. GTRE has spent so far Rs 2,106 crore on the project so far and could only fly the engine for 73 hours on the IL-76 Flying Test Bed (FTB) in Russia. The delay in the project saw DRDO choosing the GE 404 engine for Tejas Mk-1 and GE 414 for Tejas Mk-II. HEADLINES: Move Over Missile, DRDO on Rath Yatra The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which has the onerous responsibility of developing state-of-the-art arms and ammunition systems for the Indian armed forces, has allegedly spent over Rs 5 crore of its funds, and its energies, in developing a chariot. To be fair to DRDO, the chariot that it so painstakingly built over a period of one year has used copious amounts of silver (which explains its cost) and has all the embellishments you should expect from a royal chariot. DRDO developed this hi-tech chariot and ‘donated’ it to Alandi Temple in June after a bullock—according to Director of Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) or R&DE, Pune, Dr S Guruprasad—was killed during the 21-day annual palki yatra to Pandharpur last year. ONE WONDERS WHAT CONNECTION THAT BULL HAD WITH R&DE. ICING ON THE CAKE......... A senior scientist, who rebelled against this ‘absurd’ venture and filed a complaint with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), had to pay for it. The DRDO has not only stripped him off his ongoing projects, but also transferred him out of the Pune centre to a post where he has been left to waste. No sanction of the finance ministry was taken to divert defence funds to a religious activity. NOTE: WHO IS GOING TO SACK ALL THE SCIENTISTS OF GTRE WHO SPENT RS 2,106 CRORES AND COULD NOT DEVELOP AN AEROENGINE OVER A PERIOD OF 24 YEARS.
