VERY saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Lawrence. Anyone who played sports in Battle Creek over the last 40 years knew Ed. He was a legend at Jack Pearls Sports Shop. Growing up I do not know how many little league shirts I took to Ed to have my name and number put on. He was always just a kind person. He treated everyone like family and as I grew older and ran into him he always made you feel like a good friend. I have told many people on here my story when my daughter Jayden was born. One day Ed calls me and asked me to stop down to Jack Pearls because he had something for me..... when I arrived he handed me a present for Jayden.... he bought her a Michigan outfit and put her name and my number on it. I wondered how he remembered my number after so many years, but the kindness that showed was amazing! But that was Ed Lawrence. Today a picture of Jayden wearing that outfit is hanging in her room and I will keep it forever. Eds smile and presence at sporting events all over town will be missed but his kindness to so many will never be forgotten.
