VET VISIT UPDATE! Ozma will have to go back to the vet - TopicsExpress

VET VISIT UPDATE! Ozma will have to go back to the vet tomorrow. She did not have enough nasal drainage to have the swab done externally. So she will have to be sedated - her sinuses will be flushed, the flushings will be collected to be sent off for culture. BonBon was indeed hit by a car. The x-rays showed extreme calcification in the spine, just past the hip joint. His hips looked good though. So Dr. R said do nothing. BB also got his first lyme sulfur dip - next one is Friday. Little Baby Fat-Fat was sedated. He got a shave down. And x-rays were taken of his hips. And LBFF does indeed have severe hip dysplasia. His hip joints are VERY shallow. The recommended course of treatment is to have surgery. We will first do the left hip (this is the leg he has the most trouble with). Dr. R said that often just one hip surgery is needed. But after the left hip is done and LBFF has recovered, we will see if surgery is needed on the right hip. We do have to wait at least a couple of weeks to make sure LBFF has enough time between sedations. We are also waiting on the culture to see if we can get the sinus issues cleared up prior to any surgery. So were looking at about a month out for the surgery. Normal price for an FHO surgery is $1200-1300, Dr. R quoted us $800 (including any needed bloodwork). LOVE our vet!! Beth
