VIA Jake Yazzie: Navajos assuming she doesnt have respect for the military are missing the point! She didnt say she doesnt respect them, shes justifying that she doesnt need the status to validate herself as a strong person. So please dont be over analytical. Her stance on the separation from the government in terms of sovereignty is correct- its needed but not right now! Stopping any or limiting, whether partial and full, to federal funding to any tribe would be catastrophic! Who do you think pays for the basic infrastructure of our tribe, i.e. healthcare, schools, parks, courts, etc. = the fed. Govt! But I def. wanna hear more of what she intends to do to get us to be more self reliant! :) Thank you Jake Yazzie. Below is my response to those who think I am disrespectful to the military or veterans. I meant no disrespect to our veterans nor our own current military service people. I have great respect for our military and for what they have done to protect and provide the american and navajo freedoms within the United States. People need to understand that just because I am a woman, I am NOT a weak person. I am just as strong and resilient than my sisters who are in the military. Also, just as moral, ethical and full of intergrity as they are. If you so choose to be offended by my statement, that is your choice. On the other hand, let me share with you another reason why we are quasi or semi sovereign; we, as Diné do not have our own military to protect our Diné border, freedom and the limited sovereignty we have. With this said, one day I hope we have our own Diné military. For now, I hope to ensure that our veterans and our current military officers will have regional or local facilities to help with their healthcare (include alternative behaviorial health), social needs, and housing. Just like the military, I dont believe in leaving anyone behind, so my second planned outline which I state quite often is: account for all Diné! I dont go around targeting certain forgotten people so that I can obtain their votes. I am about equality and including all Diné.
