VIA Tchidi Chiemeziem. Please Read. Sad! True Life: Story of Uche, aka Uchelondon. 14/04/76 -14/04/14 Uche was a businessman from Anambra, he came to Abuja in 1991 and kicked off his survival plans in the land he believed held so much for him. Having watched as the then President perfected his plans of moving over to the new capital, Uches plan was in tandem with the President. He sold his shop at Sagamu and moved over to Abuja. His first port of call was Suleja, where he actually thought was the Abuja, he even asked some people where the Presidents house was located, he was a graduate of Economics but the magic of Abuja and how it happened defied every knowledge he could boast of as a graduate. Uche started hustling, set up a small shop, at Morocco Road, he was dealing on Kitchen utensils. Naturally, his hustles were being blessed, that at no time, he moved from his one room backyard house to one room frontyard house. At Suleja he met Nkechi, and they started dating. Nkechi just finished her secondary school but the parents didnt have the fund to further her education, Uche came to the rescue. Five years afterwards, Uche had left Suleja, not before selling the house he was able to build there, a three bedroom bungalow. He left some of his boys back at Suleja, and moved closer to the Centre of all activities. He got a shop at Utako market, rented an apartment at Kubwa, a three bedroom, relatively cosy apartment. Years after, he built his own house, then, Nkechi had come out school and was looking for work. Not finding any, she was assisting Uche at his shop, and was also living with him. Uche got another shop, left Nkechi in one and moved to the bigger one, all at Utako market. Years on, he bought a land in Kubwa and built his own home, still three bedroom bungalow, all ensuite. The house was finished in a record 5 months, and was adjudged one of the best within a wide radius of the town. It was a beauty to behold. With success smiling at him, and Nkechi happy with him, he proposed to her and they got the plans in place for their wedding, traditional and church. But first, they had to travel to the village to do the home rites: Introduction, Bride-price, Traditional wedding, all in within a weekend. On the day of the traditional wedding, he got a call. Bulldozers just brought down his house. That the Minister came early that morning and inspected the place and left, and by 3.12pm, his house was in rubbles. Uche took all the news in, he didnt tell anybody. He finished the events, everybody left, he took Nkechi to his own hometown with his people, and they went in to rest. How was he going to tell his new wife that were homeless, in Abuja. He told her anyway. Nkechi was devastated. She wept to no end, but Uche remained strong and consoled her. He left Nkechi back in his hometown and went back to Abuja. He got to his former home and wasnt able to pick any single item, as everything was under the rubbles, destroyed. Not natural disaster but man-made. He didnt blame anybody, he took responsibility, may be where he built his house was illegal, despite the original documents he had from the FCDA. He went back to Sueja and started staying with his boys, in the one room apartment they were staying. Few months afterwards, he got his one bedroom and brought back his dear wife. From one bedroom there in Suleja, to their own home, three bedroom in Kubwa, and then, back to Suleja, one bedroom. They went to their shops together from Suleja. One year after, Uche bought a land in Mararaba. He met one of his customers who assisted Nkechi to secure a job at FCDA. Everything was coming back to normal, or looking back up. Few years afterwards, Uche completed another house in Mararaba, this time, a duplex, or something that looked like it. With their two children, they moved into their own home, once again. Uche also got himself Honda, 2004 model, aka EOD. Nkechi was also able to secure a car loan and got herself a Toyota Sienna. Uche wasnt particularly happy about the car his wife bought, he didnt believe that they should own two vehicles, too expensive to maintain. Uche discussed with the wife and asked her to sell her car and be using his, she refused. For the first time, they had a bitter fight. He conceded. He however asked the wife to allow him sell his own so theyd be using one, hers. She turned it down and dared him to try it. He offered to sell it and use the proceeds to pay off her loan, she turned it down. After so many very bitter fights, she gave in. Uche sold his own car, used the proceeds and paid off the loan for his wifes car. Every morning, theyd leave the house together and enter town together. They also went home together. Things were okay, once again. So it seemed. Uche was a good husband and father. He had one vice however. He stayed out late. He entered his house every 9pm. On the 13th of April, 2014, the eve of his birthday, he knew the following day was planned to be celebrated with his wife, he called his few friends and they went to get together. He arrived home around 11pm! The wife locked him out, she was livid, she swore and cursed him. That he would die a painful death. That she had always known that he had girlfriends all around town. Uche was shocked! He only went out with other married men and no single female came near them, the wife was adamant and refused to open the door for him. He slept at the gate. The following morning, as she opened the gate, he started begging her to forgive him, that truly, no woman was involved in the small event, and he never had any other woman but her. She refused, pushed him off from her. She called her office and reported sick. She didnt go to work that day. A Monday! But her husband had to go to the shop. So, he got ready, didnt eat and took the car key to drive to town, the wife pushed him off and collected the key from him. She told him hed use the bus that day. No problem, Uche entered bike and headed straight to Nyanya bustop. At home, the wife heard a very loud explosion. The TV remote control she was holding fell off her hand. A voice came to her head: You are now a widow. Uche was gone.
