VICTORIAN JOBS | Its not that the Victorian economy isnt creating jobs. Total employment has in fact increased by 108,900 since December 2010 – equivalent to an average of 2475 new positions every month. That might sound impressive (just ask the state government), but it isnt. The real problem is that the economy hasnt been creating enough jobs to cope with the states booming population growth. Employment growth in Victoria hasnt been anywhere near strong enough to soak up the growing numbers of new workers entering the labour force. This explains why the states unemployment rate increased from 4.9 per cent in December 2010 to a 13-year high of 6.8 per cent in August 2014. SPP: How to achieve real growth? - Invest in better education and skills training to improve job security and workforce participation, whilst fostering innovation. - Encourage a diverse range of productive industries (including shifting scarce economic capital away from housing construction), to increase export income and employment. - Maintain a natural economic advantage via careful management of our food, water, energy and mineral resources. #RedefiningGrowth m.theage.au/victoria/victoria-state-election-2014/victorian-economy-has-failed-to-create-enough-jobs-to-stop-unemployment-rising-20141006-10r0h4.html
