VICTORY AT LAST! TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 5:1-10 KEY VERSE: “So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel” ( 2 Samuel 5:3). Charles Kinsley, a writer once said: “Do you feel that you have lost your way in life? Then God Himself will show you your way. Are you utterly helpless, worn-out, body and soul? Then God’s eternal love is ready and willing to help you up, and revive you. Are you wearied with doubts and terrors? Then God’s eternal light is ready to show you your way; God’s eternal peace ready to give you peace. Do you feel yourself full of sins and faults? Then take heart; for God’s unchangeable will is to take away those sins and purge you from those faults.” At last, David arrived at the palace to reign and rule over all the tribes of Israel. But, it was a tortuous yet divinely orchestrated journey. Major authorities of the Bible accept that he was between sixteen and seventeen years old when Prophet Samuel anointed him king over Israel in place of Saul, who had disappointed God as king over Israel. Between the anointing and the coronation (at the age of 30), God needed to take David through the “University of adversity”, not to crush him, but to strengthen him, and build up his spiritual muscles for the coming major assignments. Envious and jealous of the grace of God upon David, King Saul chased and harassed him from one end of the country to the other in order to get rid of him. Saul destroyed the High Priest with his whole city full of priests, just to get at David. It came to a point when David decided to relocate across the border to the territory of the Philistines, the land of the enemies! On the eve of Saul’s death, David lost everything he ever possessed in Ziklag. He prayed to God, pursued the enemy and recovered all that he lost. The next day, he became king over Judah. Ultimately, he became king over all Israel, despite all the antics of Saul. What then are you passing through today? Stop fretting, but relax and see how God will take you successfully through the wilderness of life. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Lord knows the way through the wilderness.
